Sam Park is a Korean American politician and lawyer. He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and represents the 101st district and over 85,000 residents in Georgia’s second most populated county.
Born and raised in Georgia, Park is the son of Korean immigrants and the grandson of refugees from the Korean War. From an early age, my mother instilled in me the importance of faith, family and hard work.
In 2014, his mother was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and given 4-6 months to live. They were able to find treatment options through Medicare and Medicaid where Park realized that having access to healthcare is a matter of life and death. From that experience, Park was inspired to go into politics to help ensure all Georgians have access to healthcare by expanding Medicaid in the state during his time in office.
Park was the first openly gay male state legislature and is one of two Asian Americans in the Georgia House of Representatives, along with Bee Nguyen.
