February 11, 2020 is AAPI equal pay day. AAPI women make 90 cents for every dollar paid to a white, non-hispanic man. That means AAPI women must work at least 2 extra months to make as much as a white man was paid last year.
AAPI women who work full time are paid 85 cents per every $1 paid to a white man.
According to data from 2019, 44% of AAPI mothers with children under 18 are the breadwinners in their family.
A lack of workplace protections and power imbalances that can lead to sexual harassment both contribute to the wage gap.
Without fair pay, it’s harder to AAPI women to access resources such as reproductive health care or profile for their family fairly.
